You need a little help. Its not that you’re unattractive, by any means. But you could probably use a bit of guidance to give your image a much-needed boost. Or, for less than the cost of a weekend fashion retreat, you could just grab a Motorola Razr V3.

Named for its slim, razorlike profile, the V3 is easily the coolest phone. Ever.

Flipped open, it measures a mere 0.3 inches thick. Closed, its barely more than half an inch. This is the kind of phone youd expect to see in Hugo Boss ads, and we wont be surprised if it turns up on the cover of Cosmo by the end of the year. There is just no overstating how great the Razr looks, or how unbelievably cool we felt whipping it out in a crowded club.

But profile isnt the only beauty mark on this phone. Its low-profile keypad is a single sheet of plastic that adds nothing no, less than nothing  to the V3s overall size or weight. While this aint great for touch-dialing, its killer on the eyes. And to make up for the less-intuitive feel, the keys are widely spaced enough that some practice will get your touch-dialing skills acclimated in little time.

Rounding out the Razrs refined good looks is a profoundly beautiful 220 x 176-pixel, 2.4-inch display that just begs you to shoot a little video with the built-in camera. Unfortunately, the 0.3-megapixel lens doesnt match this phones otherwise stunning outfit. Not only is the camera disappointingly bad, but the V3s slim design leaves no room for convenient button positioning. This means operating the camera is a keypad-only affair most of the time, unless youre left-handed, in which case you might have an easier time hitting the photo button mounted on the left edge of the screen.

While were on the downside, its hard to overlook the Razrs substandard battery life. Dont get us wrong: In case weve havent been clear, we love every millimeter of this phones body. But that slim size comes at a severe cost to battery performance. Our preproduction test unit gave us barely more than two hours to get all our jabbering done. This may be ironed out in the final production version, but wed be surprised. So if youre going to be out until dawn, youd better bring a spare battery.

Apart from those setbacks, the Razr V3 is almost impossible not to love. Its USB interface makes for quick charges from either a notebook, a car charger, or an AC power adapter, so you can keep it running in spite of its tiny battery. Notably absent, however, is a 2.5mm headphone jack. Presumably a Bluetooth headset will ship with the boxed version, and the V3s speakerphone works swimmingly. Even while careening down a noisy freeway at unreasonably high speed, the speaker sounds crisp and clear. And though everyone we talk to immediately recognizes it as a speaker call, most report clear audio on their end as well.

However, though the phones basic features work well, theyre not the V3s strong points. What makes this the absolute coolest phone of all time is the little touches: The selection of hip animated wallpapers that display not only on the main screen but on the exterior LCD as well; that the camera controls appear in the bottom-left corner of the screen in photo mode so that you dont have to search for features; or that you can quickly view how much of your 52MB of storage space is available with a few easy taps.
